COBOL Book Recommendations

These books are all COBOL related, but also they cover DB2, IMS, CICS. COBOL is rarely used alone, and the coverage in all of these books features COBOL heavily. A COBOL developer should have knowledge of databases, and transaction monitors.

These books are all aimed at an introductory level, relative to IT in general (ie not relative to other COBOL books). For more technical books, one should look outside of the subject of COBOL, to subjects such as DBA, object oriented programming, Internet.
DB2 for the Cobol Programmer. Part 1 : An Introductory Course

This book has numerous examples of COBOL and also of DB2. It shows a remarkable candidness to real COBOL work in commerce. It has a hands-on focus.
DB2 for the Cobol Programmer : Part 2 : An Advanced Course

This book is a natural extension to Part 1. It is a natural compliment to Part 1.
Ims for the Cobol Programmer, Part 1 : Data base processing with IMS/VS and DL/I DOS/VS

This book offers good basic coverage of IMS, DLI and how COBOL programs use IMS and DLI.
Ims for the Cobol Programmer, Part 2 : Data communications and Message Format Service

This book explains IMS DC (ie online processing), and COBOL IMS usage.
Cics for the Cobol Programmer : An introductory course

This book introduces CICS, and it gives COBOL examples.
Cics for the Cobol Programmer : An advanced course

This book is a natural compliment to Part 1.
